Community Organization for Ex-Offender Employment

This project could not have come together were it not for the prior research and documentation of several other organizations and individuals. We owe a certain debt to all those who helped indirectly by paving the way for us to compile a database of state-sponsored programs that, together with community corrections programs and partnerships, assist ex-offenders to secure employment. By focusing on prison industry and pre- and post-release, all of which greatly impact the field of community corrections, we were able to indirectly focus on the population that would benefit from these resources: the offenders themselves.

The National Hire Network Web site, with their comprehensive list of resources, provided a great jumping off point. The sheer number of resources was more than enough to get us excited about a similar project with a community corrections orientation. View this excellent compendium.

The National Correctional Industry Association Web site linked us to the various state-sponsored prison industry program Web sites around the country, some of which offered detailed descriptions of products and services, vocational and educational training, incentives, sanctions, and the various inner workings of each program. The United States Department of Labor Web site is a catalog of information regarding federal programs geared towards helping ex-offenders get back on their feet, from the Welfare to Work Program to the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. To Learn more about the federal programs currently in operation.
