Policymakers who are interested in intermediate punishments will want to consider:

• state/county partnerships to fund and administer local programs;
  
• appropriations sufficient to assure quality programs with enough capacity to accommodate the target populations;
  
• a statutory role for citizens in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of these punishments in their communities;

• sentencing laws that encourage the use of intermediate punishments.
