Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)
BJA provides grants and technical assistance in the areas of corrections, law enforcement, prevention and other related activities. Although the Bureau has given discretionary, categorical and block grant funding in the past, such as the corrections options programs, there are very few categorical or discretionary programs available for community-based programs. BJA has funded several programs related to offenders and their children over the years.

Housing and Urban Programs
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
HUD provides assistance to states, localities and private agencies focusing on housing, homeless needs, economic development, and assistance for welfare to work. All grants are made available through a process called the Super NOFA. This is standardized single notification of all of HUD’s competitive programs that is designed to assist states, localities and organizational applicants in comprehensive and coordinated approaches. Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)
HOPWA can be used for facility-based assistance, including acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operating costs and supportive services for persons with AIDS. The funding can also be used for short-term mortgage, rental or utility payments.
Section 811 Disabled Funding provides grants to construct facilities and rental assistance for disabled low-income persons.
